Satterley Property Group e-Newsletter

July 2009

Nigel Satterley

Welcome to the Satterley Property Group's July e-newsletter.

All of the major economic indicators show the State’s residential property development industry may be on the road to recovery.

However, I must make it clear that it’s not yet the end of the trough. It is the beginning of the end.

The Reserve Bank’s decision to keep interest rates at just 3%, the lowest for 49 years, has been critical to stimulating land and home sales.

The discussions I have had with very senior bankers, other finance experts and industry officials all point to a return to normal.

There has been a marked increase in the demand for housing finance, partly fuelled by the Government’s first home owners $21,000 grant, and the low interest rates offer encouragement to home owners to refinance or re-build.

I’d say we are on the cusp of change.

NICK PERRIGNON JOINS SATTERLEY

Satterley Property Group CEO Nigel Satterley has made a major executive appointment by bringing in the former Stockland WA General Manager Nicholas Perrignon as his new Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Perrignon is leaving his Sydney-based job as Stockland’s National Chief Operating Officer (Residential Communities) to return to Perth as Satterley’s top executive.

Mr Perrignon's appointment to this newly-created position is part of the expansion of Satterley's executive management team.

“Nick will bring a great deal of experience and depth to help us meet the demands of our growing organisation,” Mr Satterley said.

“We have exciting plans ahead, and Nick will work with me and the executive team to bring these to fruition.”

Garden to sprout community hub

Brighton residents touring the West Leederville Community Garden
for inspiration.

The centuries old tradition of the community garden plot is about to be introduced at Brighton Estate in Butler.

The aim of the garden is to provide a legacy for the community and school students for years to come.

Ben Hogarth, Satterley Property Group’s Community Development Coordinator for the North of Perth, was tasked with producing a blueprint for the project which is a partnership between Satterley Property Group the City of Wanneroo, West Coast TAFE Horticulture and East Butler Primary School.

It is proposed the garden will be located on the East Butler Primary School oval adjacent to The Green, the award-winning waterwise precinct at Brighton Estate.

A steering group has been formed through extensive community consultation to help create the organic garden.

The local schools and TAFE will have their own plots to be used for educational purposes and also as part of the community service the students complete as part of the curriculum. Residents will also be able to apply for a plot to grow their own crops. The community will have the opprtunity to harvest the crop and share the produce.

Brighton's community garden will be based on sustainable organic gardening methods with raised beds allowing easy access for elderly residents.

Home opening features Noongar welcome

Bilya Noongar elders Lorna Little and Clarrie Walley performed a traditional “Welcome to Country” ceremony to mark the opening of the first display home at the Satterley Property Group’s Austin Cove estate in South Yunderup recently.

The first of the 21 homes in the display village was built by Dale Alcock Homes and has already had an overwhelming response.

Mr Alcock said that the traditional welcome was recognition of the cultural significance of the Peel area.

“We feel it is important culturally to recognise the traditional land owners and foster greater communication and opportunities with the Bilya Noongar people,” he said.

The display home, called the Boulevard, features a stunningly appointed master suite with parents retreat, three generous minor bedrooms, sunken lounge and open plan living which flows directly onto an outstanding alfresco.

The remaining 20 new display homes will be completed and opened progressively over the next few months.

About 100 lots have been sold at Austin Cove and a new release is expected towards the end of the year.

The Dale Alcock display home and the Austin Cove sales office are open Monday and Wednesdays from 2 to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5pm.

For more information about Austin Cove please contact the Estate Manager, Allan Smith, on 9368 9064 or visit the website.

Dalyellup Tree Planting Day

Dalyellup Tree Planting Day

Year 10 students at Ocean Forest Lutheran College recently planted over 2000 native seedlings to re-vegetate the Dalyellup Waste Water Treatment site which was bare after the construction of additional treatment ponds.

Group TENG (To Encourage Native Gardens) provided the supervision, fantastic morning tea and lunch and the Leschenault Community Nursery provided the seedlings and valuable knowledge.

Honeywood Estate
Rowley Road
Wandi

Some of the State’s best builders are lining up to participate in the much-awaited $850 million Satterley estate at Wandi, south of Perth.

It will be called Honeywood and by freeway is just 23 minutes from the CBD. Honeywood is just off the Kwinana Freeway and is bordered by Rowley and Lyon roads.

“The structure plan was approved by the Town of Kwinana and we are hopeful that the DOP will give it favourable deliberation soon,” Satterley Property Group chief executive Nigel Satterley said.

The estate will be within walking distance of a proposed Wandi railway station.

“All up, we will have 1700 lots with an ultimate population of more than 5000 residents,” Mr Satterley said.

“Although there are seven schools nearby, we have allocated 4.5 hectares for a Honeywood primary school to cater for about 500 pupils and, as usual with our estates, we are planning the installation of first class community and family amenities.”

The display village may well be the biggest in the State as it will cater for a suite of housing products including executive and traditional family homes and cottages with cutting edge innovative design.

“If approvals are received we hope to begin work on the estate late this year.”

To register your interest in Honeywood and receive future updates on the estate please visit the website.
