The Mediterranean-like Mid-West, on the magnificent Coral Coast

The Mid-West Region of Western Australia extends along the west coast from Green Head to Kalbarri and more than 800 kilometres inland to Wiluna in the Gibson Desert.

Its area of 472,336 square kilometres covers nearly a fifth of the state, and comprises nineteen local government authorities.

Mining and petroleum production in the region has reached record levels and it’s the second largest producer of nickel and gold in the State.

Agriculture is also a significant industry for the Mid-West accounting for around 12.6 percent of the State’s total.

The Mid-West also has the highest value fishing industry in Western Australia, accounting for roughly 36 per cent of the State’s catch.

Excellent roads.

The Mid-West is well serviced with a network of major sealed roads connecting Geraldton to Perth, the North-West and the hinterland.

Work on the $88 million Southern Transport Corridor was completed in late 2005 to provide a new direct transport link to the port of Geraldton for both road and rail from the Narngulu Industrial Estate.

Sophisticated rail services.

The Australia Railroad Group operates the rail network in the Mid-West and throughout the southern half of the state.

A major Australian port.

The Port of Geraldton is one of the most diverse regional ports in Western Australia with six land-backed berths.

In response to the increasing iron ore trade within the Region a $35 million upgrade has been initiated.

Crucial air transport.

The Geraldton Airport is a Civil Aviation Authority-licensed aerodrome, owned and operated by the Shire of Greenough.

The flight to Perth takes just one hour.

Excellent education for all ages.

There is a senior secondary college in the Region, eight district high schools and twenty-two primary schools.

There are also excellent private schools, university campuses and early childhood and childcare facilities.

In addition, the Holland Street School provides education support for children with special needs.
