Bigger, better Family Fun Day at Smithfield Village’s second event

It’s bigger, and better – that’s the message from the Smithfield Village Estate decision to hold a second fun day for residents and visitors.

Called More Fun in the Park, the event is a response to public demand following the highly successful Open Day held earlier this year. Mums, Dads, Kids, write down next Sunday, August 8 now.

Fresh from its success as a finalist in the Queensland Premier’s Awards for 2010, Smithfield village has earmarked Sunday, August 8 from 2pm to 6pm to allow free family fun and an opportunity to browse through the estate.

Smithfield Village is Cairns' largest residential coastal development on the northern beaches, has already won two Urban Development Institute of Australia awards for residential subdivision and environmentally sustainable development.  Within five minutes of Smithfield Village are:

A substantial community recreation centre.

A 50 metre public swimming pool.

Holy Cross School, Trinity Park , local primary school, and Smithfield High School.

James Cook University is a casual bike ride across the Highway.

There are local shops within walking distance of the village.

The Smithfield Shopping Centre, with K Mart, Woolworths and other specialty stores.

A quality childcare facility and well-resourced medical centre.

Smithfield Village’s location is unique, only minutes away from the very best the northern beaches have to offer and just 20 minutes from the Cairns Central Business District.

And, the residents of Smithfield Village will be on hand to help out and to extol the virtues of living in the estate.

What better opportunity is there for visitors to find out exactly what living in the area brings than to talk to the locals?

Smithfield Village is part of the Satterley Property Group and an annual family event has been held every year.

For the first time, a second Family Fun Day for 2010 is being held in response to a range of requests from people who attended the first Smithfield Village event held earlier this year.

Again the target audience will be young families and children up to teenagers.

Nigel Satterley, chief executive of the SPG, said family fun days were proving popular across many estates.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for the family to be together on a Sunday afternoon and to enjoy free entertainment.

“Prospective buyers coming to the estate for the first time can also browse through the land sales office and spend time inspecting the many ideal new homes in Cairns’ largest builders display centre.

Residents already living at Smithfield Village will organise barbecues and offer cold drinks for a gold coin donation.

There will be free face painting, free Smithfield Village express train rides, a baby animal nursery, a free jumping castle, a giant slide, mechanical bull rides, horizontal bungee, Sandart stall ($2/card) and sno cones, also for $2.

Adding to all the fun will be an outdoor broadcast by local radio station (Sea FM)

Plans on display for Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre relocation

Plans for a new Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre are now on display.

And, young people from local schools have been invited to design a new logo for the centre.

The project has now been put out to tender and it is hoped construction will start in the near future.

Land for the centre was first purchased at 2 Reed Road, Trinity Park in mid- 2009.

Since then the Department of Communities has been working on plans for the new Centre that are now on display at the present Neighbourhood Centre in Cumberland Avenue, Smithfield.

Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre president, Bob Stemp has an open invitation for people to take a look at the plans.

“We are keenly looking forward to starting construction so that we can confirm a completion date.  Having said this, we have started planning for the move to the Reed Road location,” he said.

The Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre logo competition will see three designs chosen for final consideration by the management committee. Each of the three chosen will receive a $100 prize. Entries close on June 30, 2010.  NOTE: Please check this date is correct – there are different dates in the other story received).

The Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre has been in its current premises for 20 years

The new purpose built Centre at 2 Reed Road will be bigger and brighter, available to community groups, have additional off-street parking and will be situated in one of the most rapidly growing areas on the Northern Beaches.

The winning logo will appear on all centre stationery, signage, brochures and the Website.

Spiderman alive and well in Queensland

Satterley Property Group project manager Adam Gowlett has a new nickname – Spiderman.

And, he earnt it the hard way.

While walking through natural bushland in his Smithfield Village Estate, near Cairns in Queensland, he walked head down into a magnificent Golden Orb Web spider.

Adam, or Spiderman as he is now known in the industry, took a photograph (see attachment) to authenticate the head on collision.

The spiders are neither beneficial nor harmful to humans, but as Adam says “they can cause dismay in a head-on collision.”

The Golden Orb Web spider weaves its web in bush or near flowers or fruit trees and eats known pests, such as the fruit fly, without the need to use insecticides.

The Satterley Property Group’s Smithfield Village is one of the fastest growing residential land estates in Queensland and a feature of the estate is its surrounding magnificent beaches and bushland.

Women’s network a vibrant group

Women living in Smithfield Village Estate can join the Northern Beaches Women’s Network.

The organisation was launched in March during International Women’s Week celebrations.

The inaugural meeting of the new women’s group was held on Monday, May 31 at the Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre at 45 Cumberland Avenue, Smithfield.

The group is supported by The Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre, Smithfield High School and the Community Partnership Unit of Cairns Regional Council.

The great point is that all activities are generated and driven by young women living in the area.

The Network is open to women of all ages and cultures and aims to develop a stronger, more vibrant and connected community.

Bligh Government Boost Adds Even More Value to Smithfield Village

The Satterley Property Group’s Smithfield Village Estate in Cairns’ Northern Beaches already has an enviable reputation for providing some of the most affordable residential land in Queensland.

Now there’s another reason to build at Smithfield with the Bligh Government’s announcement of an $11,000 Regional Home Owners Grant.

This is a $4000 boost to the existing State First Home Owners Grant.

Lot prices at Smithfield Village start from $160,000 and come with about $7000 worth of incentives such as fencing, front landscaping and reticulation and connection to Telstra Smart Community ®. Some premium lots are available for between $185,000 and $200,000.

“Add the Satterley incentives to the State bonus and a house and land package below $350,000 is easily achievable,” Smithfield Estate manager Rino Grimaldi said.

“We can also help buyers select an appropriate home design as we have the biggest builders display village in Cairns.”

Price aside, there are few locations that can compete with Smithfield Village, positioned as it is between the beach and the rain forest.

Smithfield Village is Cairns’ fastest-growing estate and it has set the standard for innovation and lifestyle with its achievements recognised by the Urban Development Institute of Australia in Queensland.

It won the UDIA Queensland awards in the categories of residential subdivision and excellence in environmentally sustainable development.

And it also took out the North Queensland Engineers Australia project of the year award after installing a $2 million vacuum pump sewerage station – only the second one in Cairns.

Smithfield Village is a 1300 lot master-planned estate off Reed Road. It is 17 kilometres north of the CBD and eight kilometres south of Palm Beach. It is served by schools, shops and medical facilities, an Olympic swimming pool and the James Cook University.

Holy Cross Primary School Smithfield State High School, a library and recreation centre are all within easy walking distance for estate residents. For the boaties, launching off Reed Road or Yorkeys Knob Boating Club only takes a few minutes.

There are around 800 residents living on the estate, which is surrounded by open parks and reserves with boardwalk access, providing a safe family and community environment.

More than 350 homes have been completed; and another 50 are under construction.

Healthy, wholesome family lifestyle is the philosophy behind Satterley’s success.

Smithfield Village easily meets these criteria,” says Satterley Property Group’s chief executive Nigel Satterley. “But there are many other engineering and design features which are ‘firsts’ for North Queensland.

“Our aim has been is to make Smithfield Village the benchmark by which all future Queensland residential estates can be judged.”

Satterley’s Queensland State manager Adam Gowlett describes the Smithfield Village plan as a blend of cutting edge technical solutions complemented with ‘good, old fashioned’ customer focus.

“We built the first bio-retention basins in a wet tropics environment,” he said.

“Storm water is organically treated prior to discharging into the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is also part of the engineering expertise at Smithfield Village.”
